What is hypnosis?

Put as simply as possible, hypnosis occurs within a naturally occurring, very slow human brainwave rhythm, called Theta. It is usually described as being in a state of deep relaxation with an inner focus on your thoughts and feelings.

Science tells us that, as humans, we have five brain waves that we transition in and out of throughout each day. The fully awake state is called Beta. It is our normal waking consciousness with a heightened state of awareness, logic and critical reasoning. The next state is the Alpha state, and in this brain wave rhythm we are in a relaxed daydreamy, meditative state. A typical Alpha state is when we are relaxed and perhaps deeply engrossed in reading a book or watching a movie. During this state your critical mind is not as active, but your imagination, memory, concentration and learning are all heightened. The next state which is the main hypnosis state is called Theta. Most of us can easily relate to this deeply relaxed, almost floating feeling, as it’s a very pleasant state we transition in and out of just as we’re waking in the morning, and, also at night just as we are about to drift off into sleep. Most of us just want to stay in bed and drift a bit longer in this wonderful feeling of relaxation.

Using words, visualization, inner focus, imagination, and other techniques, your hypnotherapist will gently guide you into this deep state of relaxation during a hypnotherapy session. You will most likely experience hypnosis as a very pleasant, gentle and uplifting feeling, whilst being fully awake and aware of everything happening.

In this deeply relaxed state that you can communicate with your subconscious mind to make the changes you want. Your subconscious mind is always working to help you, and when it realizes that these changes serve to optimize your life, in whatever way that may be (stop smoking, weight loss, eliminate phobias, fears etc.), the subconscious will work to remove the old unhelpful, unwanted ways of being. In a similar way, the positive, helpful new ways of living can also be introduced.

Hypnosis greatly improves your well-being. It is a proven beneficial and simple way to correct unwanted behaviour/s, habitsand clears blockages. Thousands of people every day use hypnosis all around the world to help then resolve their issues. Hypnosis is safe, natural and drug free and very effective.

What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis when used in the context of a therapeutic treatment is referred to as hypnotherapy.

Can anyone by be hypnotized?

Yes, anyone can be hypnotized, providing you want to be.

There are however, a few conditions wherein the use of hypnotherapy is not recommended.  These are for those people who have schizophrenia, epilepsy or bi-polar disorders.

Otherwise, hypnotherapy is something that is done with your permission and active participation.  A well-known hypnotherapy trainer once described hypnotherapy as self-hypnosis.   This description is actually very accurate.  Your hypnotherapist can only guide you into the deeply relaxed state, and you will only do and act according to what YOU choose to do.  Your hypnotherapist can’t jump inside your brain and turn the cogs!   If there is something that you don’t want to take on board then you won’t! The hypnotherapist/client partnership is rather like a dance partnership, in that the hypnotherapist leads and directs whilst the client gently follows the directions.  Together you both work towards achieving the highest and best outcomes possible.

Will I be asleep during the session?

No, you will not be asleep, and you will be aware of everything that is happening during your session, but you will be deeply relaxed at the same time.    The Theta state, or just before sleep state, is optimal for communication with your subconscious mind.

Will I be made to do things against my wishes during the session?

No, you are always in complete control during the entire time of the session.

What happens if I uncover something that I don’t want to talk about?

Most people feel totally at ease with Lyn and can share their deepest concerns/feelings/emotions knowing that whatever is discussed is done so in total confidentiality. However, if you don’t feel comfortable sharing something very private, then this is totally fine. You are totally in control. Lyn can still assist you using a combination of techniques and tools which focus on the feelings and emotions rather than words. These methods will still allow important changes to take place.

How does it feel to be in hypnosis?

During your session you will feel very relaxed, and comfortable.  Most people thoroughly enjoy their sessions and come out of a session with an exclamation of “WOW” “That was amazing!”  “Why didn’t I know about this before now?!”

How will I feel after the hypnotherapy session?

Most people thoroughly enjoy their sessions and come out of a session with an exclamation of “WOW” “That was amazing!”  “Why didn’t I know about this before now?!”

Usually people feel lighter, clearer, relaxed and often with a new-found sense of freedom.  People can also become quite reflective for a time.   The hypnosis state often opens people up to more insights about themselves –greater understanding, and sometimes forgiveness – about their life (past, present and future) and they begin to discover just how powerful they are.  Our thoughts truly create our reality, and accordingly our future.

Will my session be confidential?

Absolutely.  Lyn works to a strict Code of Ethics and accordingly full confidentiality is always strictly adhered to.

How many sessions will I need?

It’s impossible to quote a set number of sessions.  It totally depends upon the individual person, what their issue is, how many issues they have, and how deep the problems are.  Some people will visit for the first visit and have their problem dealt with, others may need to come a session or two more, (and this is always recommended so that the new ways of living can be strengthened and re-inforced).  Then there are other people who have many problems which need more session time.  Still others who just like to come regularly as Lyn acts as a sounding board for them (often these are professional people who just need to off load a bit or get some new perspective on something).   Then lastly there are those who just like the relaxation and freedom the hypnosis session gives them.
